Since September is National Baby Safety Month and October is Sleep Safety Month I wanted to share one of my favorite experiences I have had this past year. I was invited to Delta Children’s safety lab and crib testing facility in New Jersey to get a closer look at how cribs are tested... Read more
Hollie’s Tips: Never buy a used crib. With literally millions and millions of cribs recalled in the last decade, you never want to purchase a used crib. This is one product that you want to buy new so that you know it hasn’t been recalled. A bare crib is a safe crib. No blankets, loose bedding, crib bumpers or basically anything that is not the crib mattress or fitted sheet should go into a crib with a newborn... Read more
Delta Children donated new cribs valued at $60,000 to Caring For Others, Inc. in Atlanta, GA earlier today. This donation was part of the company's Safe Sleep Campaign, an educational initiative backed with a commitment to give away $1,000,000 worth of cribs to families in need nationwide.
The cribs were given to pre-registered families through Caring For Others, a human services organization, which facilitates economically disadvantaged individuals. The donation was made possible via the help of Kids In Distressed Situations, a non-profit organization that connects companies and children in need... Read more
One of the rites of passage when you find out you're having a baby is the design of the nursery. One thing, in the overall frenzy of designing the perfect nursery for your new baby, that people often initially forget to consider is safety. Many people will choose the look of a crib or trust that a higher price tag means that their baby is sleeping in a safe crib.
I admit I was one of those who neglected to consider overall crib safety when choosing a crib for the Little Miss. I remember being so focused on her French Roses themed nursery, all I really wanted was an off white crib with roses to match her baby pink room. When I found out I was pregnant with my son, I was... Delta Children, the world's largest manufacturer of nursery furniture led by Co-President Joseph Shamie and K.I.D.S. (Kids in Distressed Situations), led by Chris Blake, donated 200 new cribs—valued at $60,000—to Baby Buggy for distribution in Los Angeles. On February 7th, a Safe Sleep demonstration was held at Children's Institute, Inc., a Baby Buggy site, where cribs will be distributed to families in need.
The Safe Sleep campaign aims to educate parents and caregivers of young children about safe sleeping conditions coupled with the generous donation of new cribs, which meet the latest safety standards.
"Delta Children was founded by my father, Louis Shamie. We are carrying on the tradition started by him to give and to give generously. These cribs will help less fortunate parents provide safe environments, while educating them on the importance of safe sleep," said Joseph Shamie.
"Delta Children is a company that places the highest emphasis on the safety of their cribs, furniture and baby gear. Working with Delta to create a national Safe Sleep campaign that goes beyond the safety of their products has been very exciting. More than giving safe products, this program will help create safe environments and instill safe habits. For our Los Angeles event, we have the utmost confidence in Baby Buggy to get these cribs to the families that need them most," said Chris Blake.
Baby Buggy, the non-profit organization founded by Jessica Seinfeld, is also dedicated to providing essential equipment, products, clothing, and educational services to America's families in need. "The safety and comfort of a reliable crib is extremely important to any parent with young children," said Jessica Seinfeld. "Delta's donation will help reassure thousands of parents in our network that their children are sleeping in the safest environment they can provide."... see more on Kids Today

Delta's Ultimate Convenience stroller tries to make life easier for both parent and child. Kid comforts include a multi-position seat recline, shoulder harness pads and a sturdy, overhead canopy (not floppy and ineffective like some inexpensive umbrella strollers). Parents get curved, foam-covered handles, a deep, underseat basket with great accessibility from the back and sides and an included parent cup holder. The most convenient thing about this stroller -- the quick and easy, two-step, one-handed fold. There is even an auto-frame lock though it would have been nice if it held the frame closed a bit tighter. The stroller also has shock-absorbing, foam-covered wheels which help it handle bumps better, but they also sometimes struggled to keep up with tights turns making the maneuvering less than smooth on store aisles and crowded sidewalks... I had the privilege of flying out to see behind the scenes at the Delta Children's Products Safety Testing Lab in New Jersey a couple weeks ago. Since safety is a big priority for me, I was delighted to see exactly how Delta safety tests their cribs, strollers, toy boxes, and walkers.
Delta is a family-run business that was founded more than 40 years ago by the Shamie Family who still runs the company today. The brand sells more cribs than any other brand worldwide. Since a baby's crib is the only baby product designed to leave your precious baby alone in it for up to 12+ hours, I'm so happy that Delta is known for safety and innovation in their cribs... One of the most treasured moments I will always cherish about my children was the bond we shared during nighttime feedings in their nursery — when I would rock them, sing to them and just feel the closeness while sitting in our comfy rocking chair.
That chair has been long gone but the memories will last a lifetime!
It's a real shame our old rocker was broken during a move. I mean every home deserves a comfy chair for special moments like that. They're unforgettable!
It's kind of funny but I still to this day will hurry and grab the comfy seat at family members homes. Especially if they rock or move. It takes me right back to the days when I held my babies in my arms and enjoyed our little moments together... Read more

We wanted to make sure Viewpoints reported only the most accurate information on crib safety, so we spoke with Joseph Shamie, CEO of Delta Children's products, the largest nursery furniture manufacturer in the world. Not only is he an expert on crib safety, but he's also on the board of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA).
Buying a crib
When it's time to choose a crib for your newborn, Shamie says the most important advice he can give is to not buy a used crib. Just in the last year, safety standards have changed, and so you want to make sure your crib is up to date. He says newer cribs have more strict weight restrictions, different rules on mattress support and also ban drop side rails. And these are just a few of the differences... Read more
